About Choice Privileges
Choice Privileges is the loyalty program for Choice Hotels International, covering 7,000+ properties across 12 brands in 40+ countries. The portfolio is heavily weighted toward US domestic travel and midscale/economy segments - Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, Clarion, Sleep Inn, and MainStay Suites are the core brands. The program also includes two higher-value segments: the Cambria Hotels & Suites (upscale, select US cities) and the Ascend Hotel Collection (independent boutique hotels from US coastal towns to international destinations).
No major US bank programs currently transfer directly to Choice Privileges. The program is earned primarily through hotel stays, through the Choice Hotels Visa Signature card (Bank of America), and through Choice Privileges' transfer partnerships where some external programs can convert to Choice points. Notably, Choice Privileges actually lets members transfer their points OUT to airline frequent flyer programs, but the primary inbound earning path for US travelers remains hotel stays. This makes Choice a more traditional earn-and-burn hotel program rather than a transfer-point destination.
Choice Privileges' best use cases for the average US traveler are domestic road trips and US highway travel, where Choice brands dominate the midscale corridor. With properties in nearly every US highway town and near most US interstate exits, Choice is a practical option for travelers who prioritize coverage over luxury. The Ascend Hotel Collection is the program's hidden gem - genuinely unique boutique properties (historic inns, charming bed-and-breakfast-style hotels, coastal cottages) bookable with Choice points alongside budget Comfort Inn redemptions.
TransferPoints tracks transfer bonuses in real time across all major programs. Transfer ratios, active bonuses, and program rules on this page are verified against official bank and hotel sources and update automatically. Visit the official Choice Privileges website
Why earn Choice Privileges points?
Dominant US highway & road trip coverage
With 7,000+ properties across all 50 states, Choice Hotels brands (Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn) appear at virtually every US highway corridor and interstate exit. The most practical program for US domestic road trips where midscale options are preferred over budget motels.
Ascend Collection - boutique at Comfort Inn prices
The Ascend Hotel Collection includes 350+ independent boutique hotels - from historic New England inns to coastal California properties - bookable with Choice Privileges points at rates competitive with Comfort Inn redemptions. A genuinely unique selection hidden inside a midscale program.
Cambria Hotels - upscale urban stays
Cambria Hotels & Suites operates in major US cities (New York, Chicago, Denver, Nashville, Washington DC) and airport markets, offering upscale extended-stay rooms with modern design. Cambria redemptions deliver some of the best value in the Choice program for US urban travelers.
Low point requirements for award nights
Choice Privileges award nights start at just 6,000 points/night at entry-level properties - lower minimum than any other major hotel program. This makes quick overnight stays on modest balances practical, and the path from first stay to first free night shorter than competitors.
How to transfer points to Choice Privileges
Follow these four steps every time. The golden rule: find available award space before transferring - transfers are irreversible.
- 1
Find the award first
Search for award availability on Choice Privileges's website before moving a single point. Note the property, dates, room type, and exact points required. Award availability can disappear at any moment - and transfers are irreversible.
- 2
Check for an active transfer bonus
Scroll up to the Current Bonuses table. If a bonus is live (e.g. +25%), you get 25% more points for free - 10,000 bank points becomes 12,500 hotel points. Timing a transfer to an active bonus is one of the easiest ways to stretch your balance without extra spending.
- 3
Execute the transfer from your bank
Wells Fargo
1–2 business daysLog in at wellsfargo.com → Rewards → Redeem Rewards → Transfer to Travel Partners → select the hotel program → enter your membership number → confirm. Requires Autograph or Autograph Journey card.
- 4
Book the award immediately
As soon as the points post to your account, book the award. Don't wait - hotel award availability can disappear within hours at popular properties. Have your loyalty membership number, guest details, and preferred payment method for any taxes ready before you start the booking process.
Choice Privileges - points per night
Pricing type: Fixed point ranges by brand tier
Choice Privileges uses a fixed-range structure by brand tier. Unlike fully dynamic programs, award costs are relatively predictable within each tier, though the exact amount varies by property and market. Cambria and Ascend Collection properties offer the best per-point value among Choice brands.
Point requirements above are approximate. Actual award costs vary by specific property. Check the Choice Privileges app for current pricing before planning a redemption.
How much are Choice Privileges points worth?
The value of a Choice Privileges point varies significantly depending on the property and redemption type. Budget property redemptions typically deliver near the base valuation; aspirational luxury stays - especially at flagship or resort properties - can return 3–8× more per point than the average.
Worked example
A Cambria Hotel in downtown Denver at 30,000 points versus a $200/night cash rate returns ~0.67¢/point - about average. An Ascend Collection boutique inn in coastal Maine at 25,000 points versus $350+/night cash returns ~1.4¢/point - the best value in the Choice program.
Valuations per TPG April 2026 (0.6¢ average). Actual value varies by specific property, date, and availability.
Choice Privileges vs other hotel programs
Choice Privileges, Wyndham Rewards, and IHG One Rewards are the three major midscale and budget hotel programs. Choice wins on US domestic coverage; Wyndham wins on flat-pricing simplicity and vacation rental access; IHG wins on boutique brand quality and bank transfer options.
Bottom line
Choice Privileges works best for travelers whose itineraries are heavily US domestic and who frequently stay at midscale highway properties. The lack of US bank transfers is a significant limitation for points accumulation. Wyndham is a better choice for budget travelers who want transferable miles from Capital One; IHG is better for boutique city hotels and those holding Chase or Bilt cards.
